This cabinet is 1 cu ft or 28 liters from the factory. I cut 4 pieces of birch and lined the front sides of the cabinet with two layers on each side to reduce the cabinet volume to 24 liters, the factory recommended size for 4 drivers. Cabinet is lined with real wool for damping.

Notice the routed holes on the back side of the baffel. This is done for better dispersion from the rear of the driver. I have wired the drivers with Audience's Auric 21 gauge polished hook up wire. Notice the loose wrap of the wires to each driver. This is done to reduce inductance.

I have the B & O Redlines in parallel for a 4 ohm load to the Rotel amplifier and the sound is unbeleivable. I'm constantly being surprised by new sounds I don't expect to hear from them. The NAD receiver has awesome processing.

The old capacitors are only 63 volt and electrolytic which die over time like a car battery. I've installed new capacitors and resistors with Solen polypropolene 400 volt caps and Mills resistors.

1.25 years of work to complete the truck. I did all of the welding and design work of the rear bumper and ladder rack and had them coated with a high pressure bedliner material.

Nice top view of the Infinity driver. You can see the switch on the far side of the tweeter. It's a push-in/push-out type. The foam flange is too large to insert into the driver hole, and the next size up won't fit the door space, so I opted to mount it with my birch blocks.

I left enough room for the sub amp when designing my install. With dual grounding under the hood from the battery to the engine and chasis, I used the dual terminal block in the photo to the left of the amp for the main (-) grounding wiring to both amps. This saves running another pair of negative cables from the engine compartment.

I cut out these board to secure the foam baffel cups to the back of the Infinity drivers to keep window water, dirt, and dust from ruining the drivers. You have actually made a mini cabinet for your driver with some dampening material. Triple application using this method.

My final install of the Infinity. You can set the crossover on the speaker itself with a little bitty switch and also point the tweeter where you want it. The six SS smaller screws located around the driver are the screws I used to secure the birch baffel assembly to cover the rear of the door to protect the driver..

Don't buy your speakers until you go to the local audio store and listen to them first. Then make a good deal online after you figure out which drivers you want. I chose these Kenwoods because they have a better low end and I would choose a different type of driver for the doors and dash. Each speaker needs to have it's own sound quality to have a perfectly balanced system. With my home theater design experience, I have learned a lot about speaker drivers and their importance with placement and applications.

After building the box, I placed the rear speakers in place and then measured for the terminal lugs to clear the top of the rear speakers as this is a tight installation space and I need clearance to install the wires.

This tape helps to keep the wiring close to conform with the floor contours and also provides a layer of shielding like you might find in a shielded cable. I've installed a layer of this aluminum tape to the floor, layed the wiring on it, and then secured the wiring with the same tape to give it a complete incasement of foil, again, similiar to that found in a shielded cable to reduce or eliminate cable noises.

I have the power supply taped to the right side of the hump and the audio input cabling taped to the drivers side of the hump, thus separating the two sets of wiring to eliminate hum.

I've rebuilt the subwoofers and mains again with new passive radiators. I removed the ports in the mains to eliminate the port noise and resonance and the passive radiators lowers the tuning frequency to 23.8 hz. I have installed a new 65" Mistubushi 1080P DLP TV. The center speaker under the tv is on a shelf I installed with a tilt to position the direction of the speaker to the listening area.

I've rebuilt the two subwoofers and installed 8 of these passive radiators bringing my box tuning down from 25 hz to 18 hz. What an incredible low and clean bass for low and high listening levels to your favorite jazz and blues music.

The Bang and Olufsen shown in the lower right corner of the picture will become one of my surround speakers paralleled with my Polk RC85-I in-ceiling surround for an awesome HT setup. I've got B & W in the rear. This pair of B & O speakers was a gift from a customer and are displayed in the Museum of Modern Arts for their innovation, design, and musical quality. The new flat passive radiators in the subs are the new Acoustic Elegance 15" 1050 gram drivers I loaded to 1800 grams each. I installed the Eminence 1100 gram passive radiators in the mains.

Full eggcrate foam lining, horizontal bracing, and a full shelf brace for a sturdier cabinet to reduce and/or eliminate cabinet resonance. I also used the vinyl sealing gasket around the new baffels when installing them.

On the carpet you can see the vinyl sealing product I used prior to installing the passives. Once they were installed each passive and attaching screw holes were carefully caulked with black 50 year caulking to ensure an airtight cabinet.

Vance Dickason, a leading specialist in the audio field, instructs us that improperly placed ports can cause port resonances and other unwanted sounds to be multiplied by as much as 10 times. I know I had the ports way to close to the bottom of the cabinet so I used the passive radiators I already had removed from the subs and took full advantage of them, thus eliminating any possible port noise and resonance.

Using the 4-15" Parts Express 1100 gram passive radiators removed from the subwoofers in the mains show the Lambda mid-woofer cabinet tuning being dropped from 30.04 to 23.83 hz. A very nice drop indeed!

I will turn this stacked subwoofer a little bit and use the corner loading for added room gain. These tested out at 18hz now and the bass is so clean and well defined. The mains are out in the shop for a major upgrade so the Bang and Olufsen speakers are being used as the temporary mains.

To properly repair the old port holes, new lower baffels had to be made and new Formica laminate installed to keep the quality look of my HT set up.

I made these four grills for the sides of the mains to cover the newly installed passive radiators. A little hand sanding, flat black paint, and black grillcloth will finish them up and provide a very nice touch to the HT system.

This very well built German made EQ sold by CSS bridges the gap between home and pro audio equipment allowing them to work flawlessy together as one unit. I'm using it with my Rotel receiver and two QSC 1450 amps. Big difference in performance!

12-15" subwoofer drivers, 4 active and 8 passive radiators. These Eminance passives will be installed in the mains. I prefer this co-locating for best results and room gain. I'm using a QSC 1450 bridged amp with an 8 ohm load presented to each amplifier for each subwoofer. Each subwoofer driver has 2-2 ohm coils, 4 coils total, wired in series for an 8 ohms load. There's 470 lbs of weight here!

I had to finish the construction on the floor due to the weight. I've sealed all of the front baffel contact areas and the passive radiator holes. The wiring will be finished and secured with wire ties to eliminate rattles from the wire. I've used #12 awg speaker wire.

Here is an 85 lb assembly ready to drop in the front of the cabinet. Dual 2 ohm voice coil Soundsplinter RLP-15 drivers mounted on a Baltic Birch baffel. The missing screws on each side of each driver will be secured into the framing members of the cabinet when installed. The other mounting screws are machined stainless screws backed up with washers and nylon insert locknuts on the back of the baffel.

Parts Express 15" passive radiators made by Eminence Loudspeaker Company mass loaded to a total mms weighting of 1100 grams now ready for installing. I used 16-3/4 washers, 1-1/4" fender washer and locknut, sleeved by a 2" x 2 1/4" long emt tube and secured by a two part Devcon Epoxy.

Here are the necessary parts for total 1100 gram mms loading. 16-3/4" washers, 1 large 1/4" fender washer, nylon insert locknut, Devcon epoxy, and a piece of electrical EMT cut to 2.25". I've weighed them all on my previous subwoofer and kept records.

This passive radiator is rated for 1200 grams, but I've only loaded it to 1100. There is only a 1 hz difference in the box tuning and the passive radiator isn't overloaded.

The cabinet is fully lined with 1.25" of eggcrate acoustical foam, inserts are installed for grills, Pionite laminate is finished, and seals are in place, ready to assemble drivers.

I used Red Oak 1 x 2 framing material for a rigid frame. Corners are glued and screwed, and corner braces are glued and nailed. The large one has the braces screwed as well. All inside and outside edges routed with 1/2 round over bit to reduce tearing of the grill cloth material.

After routing the finished grills with a 1/2" round over bit, I've painted them with two coats of flat black paint so they will be hidden behind the grill cloth.
